Osceola County E.M.S.T.

The Osceola County Emergency Management Support Team is aimed at providing qualified Emergency Operations Center and Emergency Management staff to augment local emergency capabilities.  Although currently hosted locally, the members are actively partnering with Newaygo County in forming a joint team, known as the West Central Michigan E.M.S.T.

The Osceola County Emergency Management Support Team (E.M.S.T.) is focused on developing volunteer emergency personnel to  support local   emergency / disaster response.  The E.M.S.T. is established as a Type IV N.I.M.S. E.O.C. Support team with members trained and designated for the following critical duties:
Support Emergency Operations Center and Incident Management responses as EOC Support Staff
Contribute to the capability of the local emergency plan through planning and project implementation
Participate in local emergency preparedness exercises, and capability activities
Support the emergency management department as auxiliary operational personnel

The E.M.S.T. is trained as a EOC Support Team deployable in 1 of 3 formats.

EOC Field Support Team

The E.M.S.T. is credentialed to act as a N.I.M.S. Type IV EOC Support Team providing EOC-ICS interface support to the Incident Commander, Liaison Officer, Public Information Officer, and Section Chiefs of Operations, Planning, Logistics, and Finance Sections.

EOC Support Team Task Force (4-6 personnel)

· 1 Supervisor / EOC Management Specialist (may be utilized as Resource Management)

· 1 Direction & Control Specialist (for EMD and/or CEO support)

· 1 Warning and/or Communications Specialist

· 1 Damage Assessment and/or Public Information Specialist

EOC Support Team Strike Team (4-6 personnel)

1 Supervisor and 3-5 personnel for any ONE of the following functions

Direction & Control / Warning / Communications

Damage Assessment / Public Information / Resource Management

 

 

E.M.S.T. members are highly motivated, skilled, and professional individuals.  Persons interested in joining for the next class should provide a resume and application form to the emergency management department.  Membership focuses on Osceola, Newaygo, and Mecosta Counties.

 

Above:  Newaygo County Emergency Management Director, Abby Marek leads Osceola, Mecosta,  and Newaygo EMST members in the development the disaster plan and practice for managing multi-county disaster events.    Also, at the December EMST meeting, the group facilitated the district’s first planning session between local and regional Incident Management Teams to discuss their teamwork, capabilities, and roles in major disasters in the region.  The meeting resulted in approval for the 6th District I.M.T. training project at the district level!

West Central Michigan Emergency Management Support Team

The WCM E.M.S.T. is composed of the emergency management staff and volunteer personnel from Osceola, Newaygo, and Mecosta County.  In the team’s first year of operation, the members have supported emergency responses, disaster exercises, trained extensively in emergency operations, and have conducted an extensive re-drafting of local emergency plans.
